1Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them, 2and athat you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, bthat you may know that I am the Lord.”Exodus 13:14
14 cAnd when in time to come your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, d‘By a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of eslavery.Deuteronomy 6:7
7 fYou shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.Joshua 4:6-7
6that this may be a sign among you. gWhen your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ 7then you shall tell them that hthe waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel ia memorial forever.”Joshua 4:21-22

aca stubborn and rebellious generation,
a generation adwhose heart was not steadfast,
whose spirit was not faithful to God.
